The lead actors are likeable, realistic and well cast and just when things begin to look promising, things take a turn for the worse midway when the film becomes predictable and cliched thanks to a major cahnge in direction and the introduction of a bunch of cardboard characters. Filled with nail-biting suspense, there is a true sense of horror when the kids are terrorized by the maniac truck driver. You may have heard this about the Jeepers Creepers already but, this is commonly viewed as a film of 2 halves.
Francis Ford Coppola is the executive producer.įrom the writer/director of the Halloween-homage, Clownhouse, comes Jeepers Creepers and, as with Clownhouse, the John Carpenter school of minimalism is again evident in this, Victor Salva's follow up (unfortunately, only really in the first half of the film though) The supporting cast includes Patricia Belcher as a psychic and Eileen Brennan as an eccentric cat owner. There is no shortage of clever humor amid the shocks, gross-outs, and nail-biting suspense, and Phillips and Long exhibit a refreshingly believable brother-sister rapport. The film veers gleefully in all directions, referencing such classics as NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, and even THE TERMINATOR, along the body-strewn way. Salva keeps the audience guessing by never settling into any particular style or formula.
That's just the beginning of this wild horror film, directed by Victor Salva (POWDER). Derry (Justin Long) convinces his older sister, Trish (Gina Phillips), that they have to investigate, and despite all better judgement, they do.
